Email deliverability best practices

Getting high deliverability rates is critical for cold outreach. Here are best practices to follow when using Cleanlist-enriched data.

Use the email validation smart column

Before sending outreach, run the Email Validation smart column (0.2 credits/lead) on your list. This checks each email against verification services and marks them as:

  • Valid (reliable) - Safe to send. The email exists and can receive messages.

  • Risky - The email may work but has potential issues (catch-all domain, unverifiable). Use with caution in cold outreach.

  • Invalid - Do not send. The email will bounce.

  • Unknown - Could not be verified. The mail server did not respond.

Segmentation rules

  • Always send to: Valid/reliable emails only for cold outreach campaigns.

  • Send with caution: Risky emails can be included in smaller batches - monitor bounce rates.

  • Never send to: Invalid emails. Remove them from your list before any outreach.

Protect your sender reputation

  • Keep bounce rates below 2% per campaign.

  • Always include an unsubscribe mechanism.

  • Warm up new email domains before sending at volume.

  • Start with smaller batches and gradually increase volume.

  • Remove bounced addresses immediately.

Tips for higher match rates

  • Include LinkedIn URLs in your data - they significantly improve enrichment accuracy.

  • Provide company domain (not just company name) when possible.

  • Use full enrichment to get the most complete data.
